Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) of the Khulna Metropolitan Police, Mohammed Rashidul Islam Khan, has been withdrawn from his post following controversy over remarks he made during a public meeting in Khulna.

The decision was announced in a circular issued by the Personnel Management Branch of Bangladesh Police Headquarters on Saturday (June 21).

According to the order, Rashidul Islam has been directed to report to Police Headquarters by June 21.

The move comes days after comments he made at a community consultation meeting in the Mahirbari Khalpar area under Lobonchora Police Station sparked widespread criticism.

During the meeting, local residents raised concerns over rising criminal activities in Khulna, alleging an increase in violence, killings and organized crime over the past two years. They also claimed that many victims refrain from filing complaints due to fear and accused some police personnel of leaking sensitive information.

Responding to the allegations, the senior police official reportedly stated that if information leaks were traced to a police inspector, the officer would be “hung from a tree and beaten.”

The remark quickly drew public attention and triggered debate over the appropriateness of such language from a senior law enforcement official.

Following the incident, the matter came under administrative review, leading to his withdrawal from the post.

In a separate statement, the Bangladesh Police Association emphasized the importance of professionalism and restraint in public remarks by police officers. The organization urged members of the force at all levels to maintain discipline, exercise caution in public statements and uphold the dignity of the institution.

The association further stressed that responsible communication is essential to preserving public confidence in law enforcement and ensuring the credibility of the police service.
