Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a key associate of the notorious 'Kobjikata Group' operating in the Mohammadpur area of the capital.

The arrested, Md Babu Khan (alias Tunda Babu), 31, was apprehended on Wednesday (July 2) from the Kashiani area of Gopalganj.

RAB-2 Commander Mohammad Khalidul Haque Howlader confirmed this during a press briefing held at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar on Thursday (July 2).

According to RAB, Babu is a close accomplice of Mohammadpur's top-listed criminal Anwar (alias Kabjikata Anwar). During primary interrogation, Babu confessed to his involvement in various criminal activities under Anwar's command, including extortion, drug trafficking, land grabbing, theft, robbery, and even murder in and around Mohammadpur.

RAB officials stated that Babu and his gang operated in small groups during the day, targeting pedestrians in less crowded areas and robbing them of money, mobile phones, laptops, handbags, and other valuables. They were also involved in armed home invasions during the night and carried out highway robberies. The group is known to have a significant role in drug distribution networks in the area.

One high-profile incident occurred on February 18, when Babu was captured on CCTV footage brandishing sharp weapons alongside members of a teenage gang in Shyamoli Housing Project No. 2. The video went viral on social media, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. He was arrested on February 24 but was released on bail on May 5. Following his release, he reportedly resumed his criminal activities.

His re-arrest on Wednesday marks another step in RAB's ongoing crackdown on organized teenage gangs and urban crime groups.
