Kolkata shaken as 5.7-magnitude quake strikes Bangladesh
Tremors from the 5.7-magnitude earthquake that hit Bangladesh on Friday (November 21) were strongly felt across Kolkata and several parts of eastern India.
Kolkata residents reported seeing ceiling fans and wall-mounted items sway during the quake.
According to NDTV, people rushed out of homes and offices to open spaces as the jolts were felt across the city. Images and videos of the moment quickly spread on social media.
Tremors were also reported from South and North Dinajpur, Cooch Behar, and parts of Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.
However, no casualties or major damage were reported from India.
India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS) said the quake, felt at 10:08am Indian time, had its epicenter in Narsingdi near Dhaka.
