Korean Ambassador underscores industrial ties during fair electronics visit

His Excellency Jijoon KIM, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, today reaffirmed Korea's commitment to Bangladesh's industrial development during his visit to the Samsung manufacturing facility of Fair Electronics in Shibpur, Narsingdi. Accompanied by Jungmin Jung, Managing Director of Samsung Bangladesh, the Ambassador described Fair Electronics as a successful example of Bangladesh–Korea cooperation in technology transfer, local manufacturing, and industrial development.
Bangladesh has tremendous manufacturing potential. With its hardworking workforce, supportive policies, and Korean technology, the country can emerge as a regional manufacturing hub said Ambassador Jijoon KIM. The Ambassador also emphasized the effective implementation and enforcement of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system to curb duty evasion, discourage illegal mobile phone imports, and create a level playing field for local manufacturing and investment.

The delegation was welcomed by Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub, Chairman of Fair Group, Mutassim Daiaan, Director of Fair Group, and senior officials of Fair Group and Samsung Bangladesh.

Speaking on the occasion, Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub, Chairman of Fair Group, said Fair Group remains committed to strengthening Bangladesh's manufacturing sector through global partnerships and technology transfer. He urged the Government to take stronger measures against grey-market and unofficial mobile phone imports, noting that a supportive policy environment would accelerate local manufacturing, increase government revenue, attract new investment, and create more employment opportunities.

Jungmin Jung, Managing Director of Samsung Bangladesh, reaffirmed Samsung's long-term commitment to Bangladesh and its continued partnership with Fair Electronics in expanding local manufacturing while maintaining Samsung's global quality standards. He highlighted Samsung's AI-powered connected ecosystem, where Galaxy AI smartphones, AI TVs, and Bespoke home appliances connected through SmartThings deliver smarter, more connected, and more convenient experiences for consumers.
During the media briefing, Mohammed Mesbah Uddin, Chief Marketing Officer of Fair Group, presented Samsung's journey in Bangladesh, highlighting Fair Electronics' transformation from distribution to manufacturing and its contribution to sustainable industrial growth. Fair Group became Samsung's official distribution partner in 2014, established Samsung's local manufacturing facility in 2017, and introduced Bangladesh's first locally manufactured Samsung smartphones in 2018, making Samsung the first global smartphone brand to manufacture mobile handsets in Bangladesh through Fair Electronics Ltd.
