Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani met with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly at a New York hotel. The leaders discussed a range of issues, including migration, trade, commerce, and strengthening people-to-people ties.

President Osmani expressed gratitude for Bangladesh’s early and continued support for Kosovo, highlighting that Bangladesh was among the first countries to recognize Kosovo’s independence. She also praised Kosovo’s recent economic performance, noting that the country achieved the highest GDP growth in the region for the second consecutive year. Post-war Kosovo has successfully rebuilt its economy and is now regarded as one of Europe’s safest countries in terms of security and rule of law.

Highlighting the growing number of Bangladeshi workers contributing to Kosovo’s economy, Osmani proposed signing several bilateral trade and economic agreements, with a particular focus on the textile sector.

In response, Professor Yunus invited President Osmani to visit Bangladesh and suggested sending a Kosovo trade delegation to Dhaka to explore new economic opportunities. He also recommended initiating regular youth exchange programs between the two countries.

Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul emphasized the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for sending Bangladeshi workers to Kosovo. He said such agreements would ensure safe migration and provide mutual benefits. Dr. Nazrul added that Bangladeshi workers in Kosovo have praised the country’s hospitality and welcoming environment.

The meeting reflects growing efforts to deepen economic and cultural ties between Bangladesh and Kosovo.
