A group of students briefly confined Kushtia-3 constituency Member of Parliament Amir Hamza during his visit to Kushtia Government College.

The incident took place while he was inspecting the college premises on Thursday (May 7).

The information was confirmed in a post from his verified Facebook page, which stated that he was encircled by leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal during the visit.

According to college sources, Amir Hamza earlier inaugurated an inter-department mini football tournament as the chief guest on the college ground. During the event, a group of students, under the banner of “general students,” gathered in front of the stage chanting slogans including “fake, fake,” which gradually escalated tensions.

As the situation intensified, the MP moved to the field area where students reportedly surrounded him and continued slogan protests, even sitting on the ground, further escalating the unrest.

College Principal later escorted him to his office, but protesters followed and continued demonstrations there as well. Police were subsequently called to the scene and entered the principal’s office to assess the situation.

With law enforcement present, Amir Hamza later left the campus safely.

Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kabir Hossain Matubbar said the claim that the MP was “detained or confined” was not accurate, adding that police monitored the situation and helped restore order.
