Labourer allegedly shot dead in police-student clash in Habiganj

A labourer has been shot dead in Habiganj in a clash between police and students taking part in mass procession and protest called by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.

The incident took place on Friday (August 2) afternoon when protesting students and the police clashed.

The deceased labourer has been identified as Mostak Mia (28). His house is in Tuker Bazar area in Sylhet. He worked as a labourer under a PDB contractor in Habiganj.

Eyewitnesses said that on Friday afternoon, when the students brought out a mass procession, a clash erupted between police and the students in the cinema hall area of Habiganj town. Mostak Mia was shot in this clash. He was declared dead after being rushed to Sadar Modern Hospital with critical injuries.

Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer Momin Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the death. However, he did not agree to give details.
