Lakhmipur NCP leader to be interrogated at jail gate
A court has ordered to interrogate Anwar Hossain, the leader of the NCP's affiliate Sramik Shakti, arrested in a case filed on charges of spreading derogatory remarks on Facebook about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other important government figures.
The other accused in the case, his brother and NCP activist Imam Hossain, has been granted bail on the condition of surrendering his passport.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Haque issued the order on Thursday (June 4) afternoon.
Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of the District and Sessions Judge's Court Abdul Ahad Shakil Patwari confirmed the matter.
He said that the investigating officer of the case, Raipur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahbub Alam, sought a five-day remand of the accused. The court has ordered to interrogate Anwar, the main accused in the case registered under the Penal Code and Cyber Security Act, at the jail gate.
Anwar is the organizer of the central committee of the Jatiya Nagorik Party's wing Sramik Shakti and the son of Mohammad Ali of Sonapur village in Raipur upazila. The plaintiff in the case is Ruhul Amin, the general secretary of Sonapur Union Jubo Dal and the son of Shafiq Ahmed of Charboga village.
According to the case statement, Anwar circulated ugly and defamatory statements against Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee on Facebook. According to the complaint, a picture with the name of martyred President Ziaur Rahman was also circulated in an objectionable manner on his Facebook ID, which created adverse reactions in the area.
The case mentions that when Anwar came to his village home in Sonapur, Raipur on the occasion of Eid, he was asked to know the reason for the Facebook campaign on the night of May 30. At that time, the accused including Anwar attacked Jubo Dal leader Ruhul Amin and at one stage. That night, locals arrested Anwar and handed him over to the police.
The next day, on May 31, at noon, Ruhul Amin filed a case with Raipur Police Station under the Cyber Security and Penal Code Acts. In it, Anwar, his three brothers and four other unidentified people were named as accused.
