Lakshmipur District Election Office set on fire, important docs burnt

Miscreants set the Lakshmipur District Election Office building on fire by pouring petrol inside, damaging several important documents stored on the ground floor.

The sabotage action took place at the early Saturday (December 13).

According to election office sources, the attackers broke a ground-floor window and poured petrol into the office before setting it on fire. The on-duty guard noticed the flames and raised an alarm, prompting the perpetrators to flee the scene immediately.

Election office staff later informed the Fire Service, but the fire was brought under control before firefighters arrived, preventing major damage to the building.

Following the incident, the district administration, police, and election officials visited the site. District Election Officer Md Abdul Rashid confirmed the incident, stating, “Some important documents kept in our office were burned. However, timely detection of the fire helped avert extensive damage. The matter is under investigation, and legal action will be taken.”

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Rezaul Haque said police are conducting operations to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.

Following the incident, security has been tightened in and around the Lakshmipur District Election Office.
