Lalon, Dolon hoist Bangladesh’s flag on Nepal’s Mera Peak
Bangladeshi mountaineers Lalon Siddique and Raihan Dolon have hoisted the red and green flag atop Nepal’s snow-covered ‘Mera Peak Summit’.
They climbed Mera Peak, known as Nepal’s highest trekking peak, at 7:28am on Monday (April 26).
Lalon Siddique is professionally a doctor. He is currently serving as the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer at the Damudya Upazila Health Complex in Shariatpur. Raihan Dolon is a Senior Assistant Secretary.
Lalon Siddique told the Views Bangladesh that they began the expedition on April 15 in the remote Makalu-Barun National Forest of Nepal. After trekking for 10 days through dangerous mountainous terrain, they reached the base camp at an altitude of 5,200 metres on the afternoon of April 24 and the high camp of Mera Peak at an altitude of 5,800 metres on April 25. Then, the ascent to the 6,461-metre summit of Mera Peak began at 2:45am that night.
He said, “The strong winds blowing throughout the night and the bone-chilling cold made the journey extremely difficult. However, overcoming the harsh weather conditions, we hoisted the red and green flag on the Mera summit.”
