The risk of landslides has emerged in Chattogram due to continuous rainfall triggered by a monsoon depression. The district administration has been conducting awareness campaigns through loudspeakers in vulnerable hilly areas, urging residents to move to safe shelters. All shelters in the city have been kept ready.

The awareness campaign has been ongoing since Monday morning, July 6, across various hilly areas of the city. Similar campaigns were conducted on Sunday night.

The administration said special warnings have been issued for high-risk areas including Akbarshah, Bijoynagar, Shantinagar, Beltalighona, Tankir Pahar, Amin Jute Mill area, Paharika, Samabaya Residential Area, Miar Pahar, Muratpur Railway Station-adjacent hills, Motijharna, Lalkhan Bazar's Pora Colony, Dhebarpar, Ambagan and North Halishahar coastal areas.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia said the risk of landslides has increased as the Meteorological Department has issued signal number three. Residents of vulnerable areas are being urged to move to shelters quickly. Multiple teams of the district administration are working on the ground to protect lives and property, and evacuation efforts are ongoing.

Meanwhile, due to the monsoon depression over Odisha and adjoining south Jharkhand, gusty winds are expected in the north Bay of Bengal and coastal areas. Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports have been asked to hoist local warning signal number three. All fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal have been instructed to remain in safe shelter until further notice.
