Results of 9 halls announced: Shadik gets 9757 votes, Abid 4064
The results of 9 halls of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections have been announced till 3:30am on Wednesday.
According to the results,Chhatra Shibir backed VP candidate Md. Abu Shadik (Shadik Kayem) is leading by a huge number of votes.
The halls are- Rokeya Hall, SM Hall, Zahurul Haque Hall, Jagannath Hall, Shahidullah Hall, Curzon Hall, Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall, Amar Ekushey Hall and Sufia Kamal Hall.
The results show that the VP candidate Shadik Kayem received a total of 9757 votes. His closest rival, Chhatra Dal's Md. Abidul Islam Khan, received 4064 votes.
Shadik Kayem gets 7076 votes, Abidul 1789 in 5 halls
The results of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union elections have begun to be announced. So far, Shibir-supported candidate Shadik Kayem is leading in the votes of five halls.
The halls are - Shahidullah Hall, Curzon Hall, Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall, Amar Ekushey Hall and Sufia Kamal Hall.
The results show that the VP candidate of the Chhatra Shibir-supported United Students' Union, Md. Abu Shadik (Shadim Kayem), is leading by a large margin with a total of 7076 votes. His closest rival, Chhatra Dal-supported VP candidate Md. Abidul Islam Khan, received 1789 votes.
DUCSU VP candidate Abid rejects election result
Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President candidate Abid has rejected the results of the recent elections, citing alleged manipulation.
He posted a Facebook status early Wednesday. He wrote: “I had anticipated this planned irregularity soon after today afternoon. They simply filled in the numbers as they wished. I reject this staged farce."
3 advisers talk with BNP, Jamaat
Three advisers to the interim government have reportedly spoken to top leaders of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami over the phone to defuse the tension centering the vote counting of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections.
Several media outlets confirmed the matter, citing BNP and Jamaat leaders.
According to party sources, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Home Ministry Md. Khoda Bakhas Chowdhury and DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali spoke to the leaders of the two parties over the phone.
Do not gather at various entrances of DU: DMP
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has requested the eager public not to make unnecessarily gathering at various entrances of Dhaka University.
A DMP release on Tuesday said that the voting for the DUCSU elections has been completed peacefully. The counting of votes is currently underway. Therefore, everyone is kindly requested not to crowd unnecessarily at various entrances of the university.
Mass gathering at DU entrances
Reports of mass gathering at Dhaka University entrances has been filed as vote counting in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections are underway.
Although the identities of the people standing at various entrances of the university have not been confirmed, Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir activists have made counter-allegations that they are political party leaders and activists.
Chhatra Dal's DUCSU VP candidate Abidul Islam Khan claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists have taken 'organized positions' in Nilkhet, Shahbagh, and Chankharpul.
On the other hand, Shibir panel GS candidate SM Farhad alleged that Jubo Dal and BNP leaders and activists have gathered at nine points.
No classes, exams at DU on Wednesday
All classes and exams at Dhaka University (DU) will be suspeded on Wednesday (September 10).
Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Director (Acting) of the Public Relations Department of Dhaka University, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
Tension grips DU campus
Dhaka University’s central and hall union elections were held peacefully on Tuesday. But as evening fell, the campus took on a tense atmosphere ahead of the announcement of results, prompting heightened security measures.
Witnesses said leaders and activists from Jamaat-Shibir and the BNP, along with affiliated organizations, began gathering in different parts of the campus from the afternoon. In response, additional members of law enforcement agencies were deployed to maintain order.
By evening, activists from BNP and Jamaat had taken up positions in Nilkhet, while others were seen around Shahbagh, TSC, and Doel Chattar. Their presence led to growing tension across the campus area.
DUCSU Election: Chhatra Dal holds protest rally over alleged vote rigging
Members of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) staged a protest rally on Tuesday evening, alleging widespread vote rigging in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election. Around 5:30 pm, during discussions on the election, activists from Chhatra Dal confronted Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan, accusing the current administration of being a ‘Jamaat administration.’ They chanted slogans inside the meeting room, creating a chaotic atmosphere.
VP candidate Shadiq Kayem flout rules, storm vote counting room
A major controversy has erupted during the vote counting of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election after Shadiq Kayem, the Vice President (VP) candidate nominated by student organization Islami Chhatra Shibir, was found inside the vote counting room in violation of election rules. Member candidate Raihan Uddin was also reportedly present.

VP candidate Abidul alleges rigging at DUCSU voting centers, files complain
Dhaka University Vice-President candidate Abidul Islam Khan has raised allegations of rigging and irregularities at several polling centers during the ongoing Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union elections.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon after inspecting the SM Hall polling center at the Physical Education Center, Abidul said he received multiple complaints about rigging since midday. “I personally visited Amar Ekushey Hall to gather evidence. Polling officials acknowledged that some irregularities occurred,” he stated. Similar issues were also reported at Rokeya Hall.
Abidul added that polling agents faced obstructions from early morning and were hindered in distributing panel sheets outside the voting centers. He further alleged that a candidate for the Reading Circle Secretary position at Rokeya Hall was threatened with losing her student status for distributing code numbers.
DUCSU election results to be announced by midnight: Returning Office
The results of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election are expected to be announced by 11 pm or midnight today (Tuesday, September 9), according to Returning Officer Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani. He informed the media on Tuesday that the vote counting process is underway.
“We estimate that over 80 percent of the votes have been cast. The results will be published between 11 PM and 12 midnight,” Professor Rabbani said.
VP candidate Tahmina boycotts DUCSU vote alleging rigging
Tahmina Akter, an independent candidate for the Vice President position in the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) election, has announced a boycott of the voting process, citing widespread vote rigging and partisan dominance.
Speaking to reporters at the TSC around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, Tahmina accused the election administration of unfair practices, including ballot manipulation and restricting the presence of polling agents.
“I have witnessed clear instances of vote rigging and party dominance,” Tahmina said. “In Amar Ekushey Hall, a polling officer filled out a ballot paper on behalf of a student. Although we had submitted information to appoint six polling agents, the authorities only permitted one.”
Umama Fatema’s panel protests alleged Shibir involvement in DUCSU election
Candidates from the panel led by Umama Fatema, representing Independent Student Unity, staged a protest at Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on Monday afternoon, alleging irregularities in the ongoing student elections.
The protest began around 3:45 pm, with panel members chanting slogans, including: “Shibir-backed election not accepted”. The demonstration came in response to claims that candidates affiliated with Islami Chhatra Shibir were being allowed entry into polling centers, while independent candidates and their representatives were being restricted.
Chhatra Dal panel calls urgent press conference
The Chhatra Dal-supported panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election has announced an urgent press conference scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 pm, to be held at Madhur Canteen.
Nasir Uddin Nasir, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Student Party’s Central Committee, confirmed the announcement.
Political crowds swell around DU ahead of DUCSU election results
Dhaka University witnessed a growing presence of political activists and supporters around its main entrances and nearby areas following the conclusion of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election at 4 p.m on Tuesday.
Since the afternoon, several hundred people have gathered near the Democracy and Liberation Arch, with about 200 more at Bakshibazar intersection. The crowd at Palashi intersection was comparatively smaller.

Abidul alleges pre-marked cross signs on Shadik Kayem-Farhad’s ballots
Abidul Islam Khan, the Vice-President candidate backed by Chhatra Dal, has accused rival candidates Shadik Kayem and S.M. Farhad, supported by Jamaat-Shibir, of having their ballot papers pre-marked with cross signs ahead of voting at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the TSC polling center on Tuesday afternoon, Abidul claimed that the ballots for the Shibir-supported VP candidate Shadik Kayem and GS candidate S.M. Journalist dies while on duty covering DUCSU election
A journalist named Tarikul Shibli (40) has died while gathering news inside Dhaka University's Curzon Hall during the DUCSU election. He was working as a city reporter for Channel S Television. The incident occurred inside the university's Curzon Hall around 1:30 pm on Tuesday (September 9). Fellow journalist Sohel Rana, who was on-site, said Shibli suddenly lost consciousness during a live broadcast. He was immediately rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident.
Allegation of vote rigging against Chhatra Shibir
Dhaka University authorities have received complaints of vote rigging against the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Shadik-Farhad panel in the DUCSU election, Assistant Proctor AKM Nure Alam has confirmed. Earlier, independent candidate for the central student council’s career-related post, Rupaiya Shrestha Tanchangya, alleged that a ballot paper had already been marked with tick signs beside the names of Islami Chhatrashibir candidates Shadik Kayem and SM Farhad.
Bangladesh boards the election train through DUCSU: Adviser Farooki
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has commented on the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall parliament elections. In a status posted on his Facebook page, he wrote: “Through DUCSU, Bangladesh has boarded the election train.” Shortly after voting began at 8am on Tuesday , he wrote in a post: “Next will come the train of the national election. Election Mubarak to all!”
Meghmallar alleges bias towards major parties
Meghmallar Bosu, general secretary candidate from the Left Alliance-backed Protirodh Parishad in the DUCSU election, has alleged that bias is being shown in favour of major parties. He said, “So far, various minor complaints are surfacing. We had already accepted that there would be some bias in favour of major parties when we entered the field. Such complaints are indeed being reported.”
He also said, “There are structural obstacles, but if voters turn out in large numbers, no manipulation or engineering will be possible. If 40,000 students come out to vote, how many can you manipulate with leaflets?”
35% voter turnout at TSC centre in 3hrs
In the DUCSU and hall union elections, 35 percent of votes were cast at the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) polling station in the first three hours. Female students from Begum Rokeya Hall are casting their votes at this centre. Presiding Officer Professor Nasrin Sultana told journalists that 35 percent of votes were cast at the centre between 8 am and 11 am. "Voting is underway at 19 booths in our centre. At least 120 people have voted at each booth. By this calculation, approximately 2,280 votes were cast in three hours," she said. She informed that the total number of voters at the TSC centre is 5,665.
Meghmallar Bosu casts vote in wheelchair
Meghmallar Bosu, candidate for the General Secretary (GS) position of the Protirodh Parishad, cast his vote in the DUCSU and Hall Union elections while using a wheelchair. Despite being recently hospitalised due to illness and undergoing surgery, he did not let that prevent him from participating in the election. On Tuesday at around 11 am, he arrived at the polling centre with the assistance of an aide and exercised his voting rights. After voting, Meghmallar told journalists, “I hope students will cast their votes in favour of progress.”
Curzon Hall polling officer withdrawn
Ziaur Rahman, a polling officer and Amar Ekushey Hall employee, has been withdrawn for providing a pre-filled ballot to a voter at a booth in Amar Ekushey Hall at the Curzon Hall center. Polling officer Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury admitted the matter and said that it was an unintentional mistake.
Shamim alleges attempts to reduce his votes through propaganda
Independent vice president candidate in the DUCSU election, Shamim Hossain, has alleged that propaganda campaigns are being carried out through tagging on several social media platforms and certain media outlets in an attempt to reduce his votes. He made the allegation to journalists after casting his vote at the university's Senate Building centre on Tuesday.
Shamim said that he had already anticipated such actions. “Several identified media outlets and social media platforms have deliberately tagged me. This is a planned move to reduce my votes,” he claimed.
1,100 votes cast in first 2hrs
Voting is underway for the DUCSU and hall union elections. According to information received until 10 am on Tuesday, more than 700 votes were cast at the TSC centre and over 400 at the Curzon Hall centre. Students said they arrived early to cast their votes smoothly and comfortably.
Umama optimistic about victory
Umama Fatima, the vice-president (VP) candidate of the Independent Students' Unity Panel in the DUCSU elections, said that she is optimistic about winning the election. Umama Fatima said: "We are getting a good response from the voters. Students are casting votes with interest. I am optimistic about winning."
"We want the election to be conducted properly and we want the results accordingly," she added.
We must accept students' verdict: Baker
Abu Baker Mojumdar, vying for the post of general secretary in the DUCSU election, has said that the candidates must accept the verdict given by the students. He said: "The verdict given by the students must be accepted. This is logical and there is no room for anything else." Expressing satisfaction with the overall situation of the election, Baker said: "We have enjoyed a joyful atmosphere since the day the election campaign started. Voters have come to vote with interest. We hope that the students will bring a worthy person to the leadership."
VP candidate Abidul breaches code of conduct
Since the beginning of the Dhaka University Central Student Union elections, Abidul Islam Khan, the vice-president (VP) candidate of the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, has been accused of violating the code of conduct. He broke the rules and entered the polling station set up at the Physical Education Center of Dhaka University around 8:30 am on Tuesday. Students of Jagannath Hall are voting at this center.
At this time, Abidul's supporters and activists were also seen outside the center soliciting votes and distributing leaflets. Some voters present expressed their annoyance in this regard.
Peaceful voting underway: Police
Everyone is casting their votes without any hindrance in the DUCSU elections, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam. He said: "Voting is underway peacefully, everyone is voting without any hindrance. The law and order situation is good, no untoward situation has arisen. If anyone from outside tries to create any kind of chaos, legal action will be taken against them." He assured that the law and order forces are on alert.
Quader alleges code of conduct breach
Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad-backed VP candidate Abdul Quader has alleged violation of code of conduct against various student organizations including Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir in the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) elections. Talking to reporters, Abdul Quader said: "The participation of students is good. It seems to be spontaneous participation. But I also saw some inconsistencies. Some candidates have complained that their agents have been thrown out. And I also saw a chaotic environment. Slips or tokens cannot be given within 100 yards. But such discipline was not followed. However, if the Election Commission is in order, there are some good possibilities."
Voting begins in DUCSU polls
Voting in the DUCSU election has begun in a festive atmosphere with spontaneous participation from students. The balloting started at 8 am on Tuesday and will continue uninterrupted until 4 pm. For the first time, six-page ballot forms based on Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology are being used in this election. Each voter will receive one six-page ballot — five pages designated for the central union and one page for the respective hall union. The ballots contain the candidate’s name, ballot number, position, and a designated box for casting votes.
Candidates and voters
A total of 471 candidates are contesting for DUCSU’s 28 central posts. Among them, 45 are vying for Vice-President (VP), 19 for General Secretary (GS), and 25 for Assistant General Secretary (AGS), along with candidates for various departmental positions.
In addition, elections are being held in 18 hall unions, each with 13 posts. Against 234 hall posts, 1,035 candidates are competing. Altogether, voters will be casting 41 ballots. According to the final voter list, there are about 39,800 eligible voters—around 20,800 male students and 18,900 female students.
Polling centre rules
Mobile phones, smartwatches, bags, and liquid substances have been banned inside polling centres. The entire process is being monitored by CCTV cameras, while vote counting is being broadcast live on large LED screens. To maintain order, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has deployed more than 2,000 personnel. The university’s security wing and administration are also on constant supervision.
