Launch hits boat in Sadarghat, one killed, two missing

Amidst the Eid travel rush at Sadarghat in the capital, a passenger of an engine-run boat, Md Sohel Fakir, 22, was killed after being crushed between two launches. His wife, Rupa Akhter, 20, was seriously injured in the incident. At least two others are reported missing.

Witness Samrat Hawladar said that around 5:00 pm, while a launch was departing Sadarghat, another launch, MV Jaker-3, coming from behind, hit the boat. Passengers from the boat fell into the water following the collision.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shah Md Faisal Ahmed said one body has been recovered at the hospital, one person is in critical condition undergoing treatment, and two are missing. Fire Service and Naval Police are conducting operations to rescue the missing persons.

Among the missing is Md Miraj Hossain, 40, while the identity of the other person is not yet known.
