Launch sinks in Barisal

A passenger launch has sunk at Charmonai Ghat in Barisal. The incident took place in Charmonai Union of Sadar Upazila on Wednesday afternoon (April 1).

According to local sources, the launch named MV Manik-4 brought passengers from Munshiganj to participate in the Charmonai Mahfil on Tuesday night (March 31). After disembarking the passengers in the morning, the launch was anchored at the ghat.

When the water in the river receded due to low tide around noon, the rear part of the launch sank and at one stage the entire launch sank. However, fortunately, there were no casualties as there were no passengers or staff on the launch at the time of the accident.

However, it is reported that some belongings of the devotees on the launch were damaged.

Eyewitnesses believe that the accident may have occurred as the water receded due to the launch not being tied up properly.

KM Shariatullah, the media coordinator of Charmonai Mahfil, confirmed the truth of the incident.

It is worth noting that the three-day annual mahfil began in Charmonai with an inaugural speech on Wednesday afternoon.
