Law and order will remain stable during elections: Home Adviser
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that the law and order situation will remain stable during the upcoming national elections.
He made the statement on Tuesday (June 24) while responding to a journalist’s question following a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Law and Order at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The adviser said, “We discussed how to ensure that the law and order situation remains good during the election. Almost all the heads of the security forces were present at today’s meeting. They assured us that the situation will remain under control during the election.”
He further said, “Maintaining law and order during elections doesn’t depend only on the law enforcement agencies. It also depends on the political parties and candidates participating in the election. You should remind them of that too.”
When asked whether the police would ensure fair voting, the adviser said, “It’s not just the police—other law enforcement agencies, along with polling officers, returning officers, and presiding officers, also have key responsibilities. Ultimately, the Election Commission holds the main responsibility.”
“As the Election Commission oversees the entire election process, all security forces in the country operate under its authority during that period. We all hope the Commission will ensure a fair and credible election, and we will extend all necessary support to help them carry it out successfully,” Jahangir Alam added.
