'Law enforcement fully prepared for upcoming national election'
Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday has stated that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared for the upcoming national parliamentary election.
Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Home Affairs Secretariat following a post-Eid courtesy meeting and core committee session, Lt. Gen. Chowdhury confirmed the readiness of the police and other law enforcement bodies, regardless of when the election commission announces the election date.
Responding to questions about a possible election after discussions with Tarique Rahman in London, he said, “The election commission will set the date. Our law enforcement agencies, including the police, are prepared to ensure security and order whenever the election takes place.”
Addressing concerns over police inactivity, Lt. Gen. Chowdhury rejected the notion, emphasizing that the police force has transformed into a more humane and professional body. “We want a police force that treats everyone with respect, not one that resorts to force as it might have in the past. The police are now more active and committed than ever.”
He also noted that the law and order situation during the recent Eid celebrations was satisfactory, reflecting cooperation and unity among the forces.
