Law Minister Asaduzzaman has called on members of the Hindu community to stand alongside the government in confronting what he described as “evil forces” and threats to peace and harmony in the country.

He made the call on Friday morning (September 4) while addressing a Janmashtami programme in Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa as the chief guest.

Asaduzzaman said he shared in the joy and religious celebrations of the Hindu community marking the birth of Lord Krishna.

He said people of all faiths are currently able to observe their religious practices safely and without hindrance, stressing that the harmonious environment should be preserved.

Referring to the teachings associated with Lord Krishna, the minister said Krishna’s appearance nearly 5,000 years ago was aimed at defeating evil and establishing righteousness.

He urged people to draw on that message and work together against forces of injustice and disorder in the present day.

He also called on people of all faiths to play a responsible role in maintaining peace, communal harmony and stability.

The minister expressed hope that members of the Hindu community would cooperate with the government in its efforts to confront threats to those values.

After the discussion, Asaduzzaman joined a Janmashtami procession organised as part of the celebrations.

Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Noman Hossain, District Council Administrator Advocate MA Majid and officials from various government agencies and local leaders attended the event.
