Legal action to be taken against hospital broker gangs: State Minister

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid has said a broker gang is rampant at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. She said hospital administration officials have been directed to identify the broker network, take action against them, and initiate legal proceedings against their unlawful activities.

She made these remarks at a meeting of the hospital management committee at the Faridpur Medical College Hospital conference room on Saturday morning, August 29. The meeting was chaired by Shama Obaid, who also serves as president of the management committee.

Shama Obaid said a police camp has been demanded at the medical college hospital. If any unethical activities occur, or if the broker network attempts to engage in misconduct, police will be able to stop them.

The state minister said police will investigate who is involved and how, whether they are insiders or outsiders, and will take action against all those found involved.

Shama Obaid said there are many problems at Faridpur Medical College, including budget allocation issues and non-functioning equipment. Machines purchased during the past regime are not operational, and an attempt is being made to repair them, she said.

She noted that while this is intended to be a 1,000-bed hospital, it does not have that capacity, while 2,000 to 3,000 patients come daily. The hospital lacks adequate sanitation workers, the drainage system is poor, and there are security problems. All these issues have been identified, and a resolution has been made to collectively address them as soon as possible.

The meeting was attended by Faridpur-3 MP Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, Additional District Magistrate Mintu Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police Azmir Hossain, Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan, Deputy Director Manas Kumar Kundu, Assistant Director Md Omer Faizal, Principal Prof Asif Ul Alam, Faridpur District Muktijoddha Sangsad Member Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, and Faridpur Press Club President Kabirul Islam Siddiqui, among others.

The meeting also emphasised improving healthcare services and ensuring patients face no harassment. Discussions were held on maintaining cleanliness around the hospital, ensuring a healthy environment, proper maintenance of equipment, uninterrupted electricity supply, and recruiting adequate staff. Ensuring proper medical care for freedom fighters and maintaining adequate medicine supplies were also discussed.

Detailed discussions were also held on evicting illegal establishments around the hospital, ensuring a broker-free environment, and swiftly addressing urgent infrastructure problems.
