Letter sent to immigration to prevent Salman Shah murder case accused from travelling abroad
The investigating officer of the Salman Shah murder case has sent a letter to the immigration authorities, instructing them to prevent the accused from leaving the country.
The matter was confirmed on Saturday, October 25, by Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Faruq.
He said that 29 years after Salman Shah’s death, the actor’s uncle Alamgir Hossain filed a murder case against 11 individuals, including Salman Shah’s former wife, Samira Huq. Some of the accused are reportedly residing abroad. To ensure that those still in the country cannot leave by any means, letters have been sent to the immigration authorities at seaports, land ports and airports, instructing them to restrict their departure.
OC Golam Faruq stated that the case was filed under a court directive, naming 11 accused and several unidentified individuals. “The investigation is being conducted with utmost seriousness. However, none of the accused have been arrested yet, though efforts are underway to determine their whereabouts,” he said.
The OC further mentioned that there is no external pressure on the investigation and assured that the accused will soon be arrested and brought under the law. The case was officially filed at Ramna Police Station in the capital on the night of October 21, nearly three decades after the incident.
The first information report (FIR) lists Salman Shah’s wife Samira Huq as a primary accused. Others named include businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Huq Lucy, and film actor Don, among others. A total of 11 individuals were named in the case, alongside several unidentified suspects.
On September 6, 1996, Salman Shah’s body was recovered hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in Eskaton, Dhaka. What followed was a long and controversial investigation that persisted for nearly three decades as a case of unnatural death. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) later concluded in its final report that Salman Shah had committed suicide. However, his mother, Neela Chowdhury, has consistently rejected that claim, insisting that her son was murdered.
