Life sentence for accused in rape case of police member’s wife in Chakaria
Cox’s Bazar Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Abu Hanif has sentenced an accused named Parvez Md Abul Kalam to life imprisonment in a case of rape of a police member’s wife in Chakaria of Cox’s Bazar. He has also been fined Tk 2 lakh. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional 10 years in prison.
The judge pronounced the verdict around noon on Wednesday (September 9). Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of the state side Iftekhar Mahmud confirmed the matter of the verdict.
According to the FIR of the case and information from the state side, a group of miscreants including Parvez entered the house of a police member posted at Chakaria police station on the night of July 15, 2025. First they looted various household items. Later they forcibly raped the wife of the police member and fled the scene.
After the incident became known, it created a huge sensation in Chakaria. Later police conducted a drive and arrested the main accused of the case Parvez Md Abul Kalam. He was sent to jail through the court. After completing the investigation, the investigating officer of the case submitted the charge sheet to the court.
After long hearings in the trial of the case, the court reviewed the presented evidence, circumstantial information and arguments of the lawyers of both sides. As the charge against the accused was proved in these reviews, the court ordered life imprisonment and a fine for him.
Lawyers of the plaintiff side and the state side have expressed satisfaction over the verdict. According to them, the trial and exemplary punishment for such a serious crime committed on a family member of a member of the law enforcement agency will send a stern message to the criminals. At the same time, they also commented that the victim family has received justice through this verdict.
