Lightning strike sparks fire outside power minister’s home in Sirajganj

A lightning strike sparked a fire outside the residence of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmood Tuku in Sirajganj on Wednesday (September 9), with two Fire Service units later bringing the blaze under control.

The incident took place around 1:30pm in the Hosenpur area of Sirajganj Sadar upazila as heavy rain and thunderstorms swept through the area.

According to Fire Service and local sources, lightning struck near the main gate of the minister’s residence, triggering the fire. Locals alerted the Fire Service, which sent two units to the scene and contained the blaze.

Abu Hena Mostafa Noman, the minister’s personal officer, confirmed that the fire broke out following the lightning strike but said no one was injured.

Mohammad Abdur Rahman, deputy assistant director of Sirajganj Fire Service, said preliminary information suggested that lightning caused the fire.

No casualties were reported in the incident.
