Lightning strikes kill 13 cattle, one buffalo in Moulvibazar
Thirteen cattle and a buffalo belonging to tea workers were killed in separate lightning strikes in Moulvibazar.
A thunderbolt struck 13 cattle on Wednesday afternoon while they were grazing in a field at Kuchai Jalai village in Juri upazila.
Another thunderbolt hit a buffalo at Patar Tila village in the same upazila.
Local representatives and residents called for government assistance to support the families whose animals died in the lightning strikes.
Tea worker Suman Gar, whose four cattle died in the lightning strike, said, "The animals were my only belongings. I have nothing left now."
Another tea worker, Mitali Rajbhor, who lost three cattle in the lightning, said she had bought the animals for her hard-earned savings.
"I heard the news of the lightning just when I returned home after leaving my three cattle in the field. My dreams have been shattered," she added.
Goalbari Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Kaiyum visited the affected families and assured them of assistance.
Moulvibazar-1 MP Nasir Uddin Ahmed Mithu said that assistance will be provided to the affected families.
Juri Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mushfiqun Noor said a list of the affected families is being prepared and that support will be provided to them.
