List of Bangladeshis detained in India found: Commission

A list with the names and addresses of 1,067 Bangladeshis detained in various prisons in India in the last two to two and a half years has been found, said retired judge Mainul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances.

He said this at a press conference at the office of the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances on Tuesday afternoon.

Mainul Islam said that a list of Bangladeshi citizens detained in various prisons in India was requested. A list with the names and addresses of Bangladeshis detained in various prisons in India has been found through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It has been mentioned in writing that it will be sent to the commission if more information is available. An investigation is underway to find out whether the name of any person who has been subjected to disappearance is in the list received.

He said that the investigation is ongoing subject to receiving complete information from the police and BGB. However, we are aware that on December 22 last year, a missing person named Mohammad Rahmat Ullah from Dhamrai, Dhaka was pushed through the Gomostapur border in Chapainawabganj. The commission's investigation into this matter is ongoing.

At this time, the members of the Commission of Inquiry on the Missing Persons are retired Additional Judge Md Farid Ahmed Shibli, human rights activist Nur Khan, BRAC University teacher and commission member Nabila Idris, human rights activist and commission member Sajjad Hossain.
