Locks put on gates of administrative building demanding resignation of VC at SAU
BNP-backed white panel teachers, officers and Chatra Dal leaders and activists of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) have locked all the gates of the administrative building and held a protest programme demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam.
They held this programme from 11am to 1pm on Sunday (September 20).
The protesters said irregularities and corruption have taken place in various administrative activities including appointments at the university since Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam took the responsibility of the Vice-Chancellor. They demanded uncovering the real incident through a neutral investigation. They warned that a tough programme will be started if the Vice-Chancellor does not resign.
Regarding this matter general secretary of the white panel of the university Professor Dr Mozammel Haque said we have been agitating demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor since September 7.
There are allegations of financial and appointment corruption, tender scandal, arbitrariness, harassment and mistreatment of teachers-officers-employees, keeping promotions stopped and buying low-quality goods against the Vice-Chancellor.
He said as no remedy was found even after warning on these matters the protest programme was held by putting locks on all the gates of the administrative building. Although there has been some suffering due to this the classes and examinations have remained normal. The agitation will go to a tougher position if the Vice-Chancellor does not resign.
Earlier Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam has denied these allegations.
