Looted police shotgun recovered from pond by fishermen

A police shotgun that was looted from the thana during the 2024 uprising has been recovered after it was found in a fishing net in Araihazar, Narayanganj.

The weapon was recovered from a pond in the Singarpur area of Fatehpur Union in the upazila around 8am on Monday (August 3).

Local sources said fishermen were casting nets in the pond when they spotted a shotgun. They informed Araihazar Police Station, and police later went to the spot, recovered the weapon and took it to the thana.

Police said the recovered shotgun is one of the weapons looted from Araihazar Police Station during the 2024 uprising.

Sub-Inspector Shafiul Islam, in charge of weapon maintenance at Araihazar Police Station, confirmed after matching it with the weapon register that the butt number of the recovered shotgun is 651, and it belongs to Araihazar Police Station.

Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sobzel Hossain said an investigation is underway to determine how the shotgun ended up in the pond and how long it had been lying there.
