Loud bike riding sparks clash in Rajshahi, seven injured

At least seven people have been injured in a bloody clash between local residents and a group of youths in the Chandrima Thana area of Rajshahi city, sparked by loud motorcycle riding late at night. During the clash, a house was vandalised and four motorcycles were set on fire.

The incident took place around 1:00 am on Tuesday, April 14, in the Kestganj Bazar area of the city.

According to local sources, Anik, son of Shahin from the Kaichuatail area under Chandrima Thana, was riding a motorcycle recklessly and at high volume in the Kestganj Bazar area. When 5-6 local residents objected to such activities in a secluded area late at night, an argument ensued. Anik left the scene but returned shortly afterwards with his friends Redwan, Nahid and 4-5 others.

Allegations have been made that Anik and his associates launched a sudden attack on the houses of locals Sabbir and Sohel, vandalising them. When villagers gathered and resisted, a fierce clash broke out between the two sides. At one stage, the angry mob set fire to four motorcycles used by the attackers. Sensing the situation deteriorating, the main accused, Anik, fled the scene.

A total of seven people were injured in the incident – five locals and two of Anik's friends. The injured are Md Kamal Uddin, 60; Md Mustakim Hossain, 40; Md Raja Alam, 22; Md Zahid Hossain, 23; and Md Siam Hossain, 20. The two attackers injured are Redwan, 22, of Naodapa area, and Nahid Hossain, 26, of Hajir Mor area.

Police from Chandrima Thana arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The burnt motorcycles were seized and taken to the police station. The injured were rescued and admitted to ward 8 of Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital.

Hospital sources said the two attackers are currently undergoing treatment under police custody.

Chandrima Thana police said operations are ongoing to arrest the main accused, Anik. Legal action is in process regarding the incident.
