Low pressure over Bay may bring five days of rain across country

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across all eight divisions, driven by a low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal and active monsoon conditions.

The BMD, in a forecast signed by meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam on Monday (August 31), said temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur in many parts of the country during the period.

Some areas may also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, it added.

Until 9am Tuesday, many areas of Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and some areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions, may experience rain or thunderstorms. Moderate to heavy rain is also possible in places, while temperatures may fall slightly across the country.

From 9am Tuesday to the following 24 hours, rain is expected to continue in most parts of all eight divisions. Moderate to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places, with little change expected in day and night temperatures.

From Wednesday morning, some areas of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and many parts of the remaining six divisions may receive rain or thunderstorms. Temperatures may rise slightly nationwide.

On Thursday, many areas of all divisions except Khulna may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Moderate to heavy rain may continue in places, while daytime temperatures may rise slightly.

For Friday, the final day of the five-day forecast, rain or thunderstorms are likely at some places across all eight divisions, with moderate to heavy rainfall possible in places. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly.
