In June this year, the country’s overall inflation rate dropped to 8.48 percent, marking its lowest point in the last 35 months, or nearly three years. During the same period, food inflation fell to 7.39 percent. For comparison, inflation stood at 7.48 percent in July 2022.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released the inflation data for June on Monday (July 7), reporting that the non-food inflation rate stood at 9.37 percent for the month.

According to BBS statistics, the overall inflation rate in March this year was 9.35 percent. Since then, inflation has been gradually decreasing for three consecutive months. In May, it was 9.05 percent, and in April, 9.17 percent.

For the fiscal year 2024-25, the government had set a target to reduce the average inflation rate to 6.5 percent. However, this goal has not yet been achieved. Still, the overall inflation falling into the 8 percent range after a long time has brought some relief to the common consumers.
