Madaripur AL president detained by BGB at Cumilla border
Shahabuddin Ahmed, president of the Awami League's Madaripur District unit, was detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday (September 16).
He was detained at the Bibir Bazar border in Cumilla while attempting to flee to India.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Iftekhar Hossain, captain of Cumilla Battalion BGB-10, confirmed the matter.
He said, "Shahabuddin was apprehended in a border area near Bibi Bazar in Cumilla, where his suspicious activities led to his detention. During subsequent questioning, the BGB learnt that he is the president of Awami League's Madaripur unit. He reportedly admitted to being in the area with the intention of illegally entering India."
The BGB indicated that legal proceedings are currently underway against him.
