Madrasa director among four held in Pabna over drug use
Police have arrested four people, including the director of a madrasa in the Banagram area of AtaiKula Police Station in Pabna's Santhia upazila, on charges of drug use. In the same drive, four others were arrested with drugs from various locations in the area. Later, all eight were sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment without labour by a mobile court.
According to police sources, based on a tip-off, AtaiKula Police conducted a raid late on Sunday (July 20) at the Bani Adam International Cadet Madrasa in the Banagram Masterpara area. During the raid, madrasa director Md Shariful, Shahidul Islam, Robin Pradhan and A. Rahman were arrested on charges of drug use. Subsequently, a mobile court sentenced each of the four to one month of imprisonment without labour.
In separate drives, four others—Riyon, Alauddin Bhuiya, Billal Hossain and another individual—were arrested with drugs from various locations in the police station area. Riyon and Billal Hossain were sentenced to 20 days each, and Alauddin Bhuiya to one month of imprisonment without labour by the mobile court. The name of the fourth individual was not disclosed.
AtaiKula Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mojibur Rahman said the mobile court handed down the sentences through summary trial under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. He added that police will continue regular drives to keep the area free of drugs.
