Madrasa principal arrested in Lakshmipur for allegedly raping student
Police have arrested Abdul Ahad, principal of a madrasa in Lakshmipur's Chandrganj, on charges of raping a 12-year-old student.
Chandrganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rob confirmed the matter on Monday (July 20) morning. The principal was shown arrested in a case filed by the victim's family.
Earlier on Sunday (July 19) night, he was detained from Popular Ideal Hifz Madrasa in the Dighli Rastar Matha area of Mandari Union in the upazila. Ahad was the principal of the same madrasa.
According to police and the complaint, the principal allegedly called the student to his room on Saturday (July 18) night and raped her. The following afternoon, the student fled the madrasa and returned home. The child told her mother in tears that the teacher had committed an inappropriate act with her. After the incident came to light, guardians and local residents went to the madrasa and detained the accused. Police arrived at the scene and took him into custody.
The child has been deeply traumatised by the incident, according to local sources.
OC Abdur Rob said a case has been filed by the victim's family. The accused has been shown arrested in the case, and preparations are underway to produce him before court. An investigation is ongoing. The child has been rescued and sent to hospital for medical examination.
