Madrasa student dies after falling from rooftop in Jurain
A madrasa student died after falling from the rooftop of a madrasa building in West Jurain in Dhaka.
The incident took place around 9:30pm on Sunday night (August 30).
The deceased was identified as Yamin, 10, son of Rafiqul Islam of Mohammadbagh in Kadamtali. He was a student of the Hifz section at Tasfilul Quran Hifz Madrasa.
Madrasa teachers rescued Yamin in critical condition from beneath the building and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 10:15pm.
Madrasa principal Ferdous Ahmed said Yamin had returned home after the madrasa closed on Wednesday. On Sunday night, his grandmother brought him back to the madrasa. Shortly afterwards, he allegedly took the key to the rooftop gate and went upstairs.
“Later, we learned that he had fallen from the rooftop. We immediately rescued him from below the building and took him to hospital,” Ferdous said.
The madrasa authorities could not immediately confirm how Yamin fell from the rooftop.
Mohammad Faruk, inspector in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
The incident has been reported to Kadamtali Police Station, and legal proceedings are underway.
