A clash broke out between police and madrasa students over music at a cultural event organised at the Police Lines in Brahmanbaria. At least 30 people, including police personnel and madrasa students, were injured in the clash around 11:30pm on Tuesday in the West Medda area of the town .

According to police, students and local sources, the district police organised a cultural event to mark the arrival of the DIG of Chattogram Range. The event continued even after the DIG left. At that time, several students from the adjacent Darul Arkam Islamia Madrasa went to the Police Lines to demand that the music be stopped . An argument with police over the matter led to tensions .

At one point, over a hundred madrasa students entered the Police Lines premises, prompting police to charge with batons. Students retaliated by throwing brickbats . Several on both sides were injured. The district police's cultural event was later shut down amid the unrest .

The madrasa students claimed they had an examination the next day and the music was disrupting their studies. After their initial request, the volume was lowered briefly, but when the music resumed at a high volume, the dispute escalated . They demanded a proper investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.

District Police Superintendent Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf said the clash stemmed from a misunderstanding over the sound from the cultural event, as the Police Lines and the madrasa are adjacent. He said an unfortunate incident occurred, and legal action would be taken against those involved based on CCTV footage, while necessary assistance would be provided for the treatment of the injured.
