Madrasa Superintendent held for raping disabled woman in Bogura
Police have arrested a madrasa superintendent on charges of raping a physically disabled young woman in Nandigram upazila of Bogura.
The arrested man, Baki Billah, 52, superintendent of Gachail Dakhil Madrasa in the upazila, was arrested from his residence Wednesday night (July 1).
Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nandigram Police Station, confirmed this.
According to the case statement, the victim is the accused's cousin's sister-in-law and lives with a physical disability. She was allegedly raped by Billah on the afternoon of January 21, when other family members were away from home.
The assault came to light after the victim began showing physical changes and was taken for medical examination, where doctors confirmed she was 14 weeks pregnant, according to the case details.
The victim's guardian filed a case with the court on June 25.
Following a court directive, the case was formally recorded at Nandigram Police Station on July 1.
"The arrested superintendent would be produced before the court following the completion of legal formalities," OC Tariqul Islam said.
