Police have arrested a madrasa teacher on charges of assualting a boy in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur.

Teacher Nur Uddin, 25, was detained following a case filed with the police station on behalf of the victim's family in this incident and later shown arrested, police said.

According to local sources, a resident of Alamdanga upazila had sent his 11-year-old son in the boarding facility of Mujibnagar Ideal Madrasa and Dakhil Hifzkhana for his education. On Thursday night (April 9), he learned from a fellow student’s guardian that Arabic teacher Nur Uddin had allegedly taken the boy to his room on multiple occasions and subjected him to abuse.

Upon receiving the information, the child’s father rushed to the madrasa and found heightened tension among locals. After speaking with his son, he confirmed the allegations. As news of the incident spread, anger gripped the area, with locals also reporting similar allegations involving other children.

As tensions escalated, an agitated crowd surrounded the madrasa. Police from Mujibnagar station rushed to the scene, brought the situation under control, and arrested the accused.

Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mujibnagar Police Station, said, "The child's father has filed a case as the plaintiff and legal action is being taken in this matter."
