Madrasa teacher arrested for raping student in Lalmonirhat

Local villagers have arrested a teacher named Shahjalal Haque, 23, in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat on charges of raping a 12-year-old madrasa student and handed him over to the police. He was arrested from Paschim Bhelabari village of the upazila on Friday night.

Shahjalal, a teacher at a Hafezia madrasa in the upazila, was arrested. He is the son of Mozammel Haque, a resident of Sarkartari village in Kachakata Kachardwara of Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram.

According to police and local sources, Shahjalal called a residential student to his room on the night of July 21 and sexually assaulted him. The next day, when the student expressed reluctance to return to the madrasa, his family members asked him the reason, and he told them the whole incident. The family members informed the madrasa authorities about the matter.

On Friday, when the madrasa authorities and the villagers sat for mediation, Shahjalal admitted to the allegations. At that time, the crowd present thrashed him and handed him over to the police. The father of the victim student filed a case against the accused teacher at Aditmari Police Station as a plaintiff. Shahjalal was shown arrested in it.

Aditmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmus Shakib Sajeeb said that the student's father's written complaint was registered as a case and the accused was shown arrested.
