Madrasa teacher arrested in Chattogram over sodomy of student

Police have arrested a madrasa teacher, Hafez Md Rabiul Hasan (24), on charges of sodomising a nine-year-old madrasa student in Patiya, Chattogram.

He was arrested during a raid at the Shah Malekia Tahfizul Quran Madrasa in the Amjurhat area of Jangal Khain union on Thursday, September 10, around 9:30pm.

The arrested Rabiul Hasan is the son of Md Hossain of the Faizanirpara area of North Dhurung union in Cox's Bazar's Kutubdia upazila. He taught at the Shah Malekia Tahfizul Quran Madrasa in the Amjurhat area.

According to police sources, the child was allegedly sodomised on July 15 and August 30, around 4am, at the madrasa located on the second floor of MR Tower near Amjurhat Bazar. The family informed police after the child was again subjected to an attempted assault on Thursday night.

Upon receiving the information, a police team led by Patiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaul Haque went to the madrasa and arrested the accused teacher, Rabiul Hasan.

Patiya Police Station OC Ziaul Haque said a case was filed by the child's family under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. The arrested accused has been produced before the court.
