Police have arrested a madrasa teacher in Narail Sadar upazila over allegations of sexually abusing six child students.

The teacher, Mahbubur Rahman, 25, was arrested early Sunday (September 6) from the Kalagachhar area under Gacha police station in Gazipur, Narail Sadar police said.

Mahbubur Rahman, a resident of Balarampur village in Maijpara union, had been working as a Hifz teacher at Tasir Uddin Hafezia Madrasa in Dumurtala area of Narail municipality.

According to the case statement and police, Rahman was assigned to teach at the madrasa after a regular teacher went on a 45-day training programme. He allegedly abused several child students at different times after taking charge, using threats to prevent them from speaking out.

The allegations came to light on August 28 when the mother of an eight-year-old student visited the madrasa. The child allegedly told her that Rahman had sexually abused him the previous night.

After the madrasa authorities questioned the child, five other students allegedly made similar allegations against the teacher.

Mahbubur Rahman went into hiding after the allegations surfaced. The mother of one of the alleged victims filed a case with Narail Sadar police station on September 5.

Police later traced and arrested him in Gazipur early Sunday.

Narail Sadar police station Inspector (Investigation) Ajay Kumar Kundu said the case was filed over allegations involving six child students.

“He has admitted to abusing the six students,” Kundu said, adding that Rahman was sent to court after completion of the required legal procedures.
