Child caned for refusing to massage teacher in Narayanganj

A madrasa teacher has gone into hiding in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, after allegedly caning a child student at Dawatul Qur’an Haji Giasuddin Pradhan Madrasa and Orphanage. Reports say the teacher assaulted the boy after he refused to massage his body.

Last Friday night, teacher Monir Hossain reportedly summoned Imran Hossain (11), a residential student of the madrasa’s Nazera branch, to give him a body massage. When Imran declined, citing illness, the teacher became enraged and beat him indiscriminately with a cane and stick. The boy sustained injury marks on different parts of his body.

On Monday morning, Imran’s mother, Moslima Begum, went to the madrasa to see her son and found him in poor condition. She later admitted him to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex. She said she had not known anything earlier because her son had been kept confined for three days after the assault.

Moslima Begum further alleged that her son was tortured simply because he refused to give the teacher a body massage after being woken from sleep.

Commenting on the matter, madrasa principal Yunus Ali said he was not present when the incident occurred and described it as very unfortunate.

Sonargaon Police Station’s Investigation Officer, Inspector Rashedul Hasan Khan, confirmed receiving a written complaint about the incident. He said legal action would be taken against the accused teacher following investigation.
