Madrasa Teacher face public outrage over abusing child student, filming
A madrasa teacher in Lakshmipur has sparked widespread outrage after posting a video on social media showing himself abusing a child student, captioning the footage with the remark: “I enjoy making little kids cry.”
The incident took place at a madrasa in the Uttar Char Ababil union of Raipur upazila in Lakshmipur.
The accused, Imran Hossain, a former assistant teacher at the institution, hails from Senbagh upazila in neighbouring Noakhali.
Facing widespread criticism, Hossain appeared live on social media on Saturday (July 18) to apologise and admitted he had posted the video himself.
The madrasa is currently closed, and its authorities said Hossain had been dismissed from his post roughly two months before the video surfaced, leading them to believe the footage was filmed while he was still employed there.
The video, which began circulating online on July 16, shows the teacher using a cane to frighten a young student into crying, continuing despite the child's visible distress and attempts to resist. After the clip went viral, Hossain deleted both the video and his social media account.
Efforts to reach Hossain directly for comment were unsuccessful. However, in his Saturday video statement, he claimed he had only been "joking around" by holding a stick near the child's mouth after the student failed to answer questions and began crying, insisting he neither caned nor scolded the boy.
He said he had not anticipated the incident would be perceived this way and asked for forgiveness.
Md. Manjur Ahmed, founding president of the madrasa, said Hossain was dismissed from the institution nearly two months ago and has since been releasing previously recorded videos on social media after losing his job.
Manjur said Hossain, who was also active as a TikTok content creator, had shown a pattern of concerning behaviour from the outset — including unprofessional conduct toward child students, punishing them without cause, and posting their photos and videos online without institutional permission — for which he had been warned multiple times.
Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Raipur police station, said the matter has come to police attention and inquiries began the day after the video surfaced.
He confirmed the teacher was dismissed roughly two months ago and is not currently in Raipur, while the madrasa remains shut.
Police, later, advised the victim's family to pursue legal action.
