Madrasa teacher held over alleged rape of disabled woman
Police have arrested a madrasa teacher accused of raping a 25-year-old speech-impaired woman in Nangalkot, Cumilla.
Locals detained the accused teacher on Friday night and handed him over to police. He was sent to jail through a court on Saturday afternoon, May 16.
The arrested teacher has been identified as Sabbir Ahmed, son of Mohammad Taj Uddin of Jonotri village in Nabiganj upazila, Habiganj. He taught at the Srihasyo Siddique Ali Moallem Shah Hafizia Nurani Madrasa in Nangalkot upazila.
According to police and local sources, the victim worked as a cook at the madrasa for a long time. Through her work, she became acquainted with Sabbir Ahmed. The accused allegedly raped her multiple times, taking advantage of the acquaintance. When the woman became pregnant, she was allegedly given medication.
Family members said the victim's physical condition deteriorated, and she was taken to a local doctor. Through the doctor, they learned that she had been given medication while pregnant. The victim then identified the accused teacher through gestures, leading locals to detain him and inform police.
Police arrived at the scene, took the accused into custody, and admitted the victim in critical condition to the One Stop Crisis Centre at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
The victim's brother has filed a rape case at Nangalkot Police Station.
Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Shubho said the victim and accused were rescued after receiving information. The victim has been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for treatment, and the accused has been sent to jail through court. A remand application will be filed within the next two to three days.
