Ashulia Police have detained a madrasa teacher accused of sexually harassing a seven-year-old student.

The accused, identified as Elias Hossain, was detained from Rawjatul Quran Modern Nurani and Hafezia Madrasa in the South Gazirchat Sinsin Mor area of Ashulia on Thursday afternoon (May 7).

According to the victim’s family, the alleged incident took place at the madrasa on Wednesday afternoon. The child, student of class 1, had been staying at his uncle’s house in the Gazirchat area while studying at the institution, as his father works abroad and his mother lives in their village home.

Family members said the child began crying after returning home from class, and later told his aunt that the teacher had taken him aside, touched different parts of his body and attempted to sexually harass him by offering various inducements.

Relatives alleged that when the matter was reported to the madrasa authorities, they initially tried to settle the issue internally. Local residents detained the accused teacher before police arrived and took him into custody on Thursday.

Madrasa principal Anwar Hossain said he personally took the accused teacher to the police station and requested legal action against him.

The accused teacher could not be reached for comment as he remains in police custody.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam confirmed that police had detained the accused and were questioning him. He said preparations were underway to file a case over the alleged sexual harassment.
