Madrasa teacher jailed for supplying exam cheat sheets, 5 students expelled

A mobile court in Kasba, Brahmanbaria, has sentenced a madrasa teacher to one year of simple imprisonment for supplying cheat sheets to students during the Alim examinations. Five examinees were also expelled for their involvement in the cheating incident. Additionally, two room invigilators were relieved of all examination duties for negligence.

The incident occurred on Monday morning during the History of Islam examination at the Kasba Women's Degree College Alim examination centre. The convicted teacher, Md Monirul Islam, is a teacher at Ranikhar Emdadul Bari Madrasa in Akhaura upazila.

According to the upazila administration, after allegations surfaced that cheat sheets were being supplied to several examinees in Room No. 301, CCTV footage was reviewed and the allegations were confirmed. Subsequently, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Tanjil Kabir conducted the mobile court and sentenced the accused teacher to one year of simple imprisonment.

Two teachers from Araibari Kamil Madrasa — Afsana Akhtar and Md Bakibillah — were relieved of their examination duties for negligence. The centre authorities said strict monitoring would continue to ensure a fair and cheat-free examination environment.
