MAG Osmani’s 40th death anniversary on Friday

The 40th death anniversary of General MAG Osmani, commander-in-chief of the armed forces during the liberation war, is being observed on Friday.

Different political, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to commemorate MAG Osmani’s death anniversary.

The Bangabir General MAG Osmani Birth Centenary Udjapon Parishad, Sylhet organised several programmes, including a prayer session and placing wreaths at his grave. The Osmani Museum will arrange a Quran recitation, a prayer session and a discussion on Saturday on the occasion.

Osmani was born in Sunamganj, Assam Province during the British era on September 1, 1918 and died in London on February 16, 1984.

He was educated in Assam and Sylhet and graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in India.

Osmani had a major role in organising the Bangladesh armed forces and the war of independence of Bangladesh.
