Magistracy powers of armed forces extended by 60 days
The Ministry of Public Administration has extended the powers of executive magistrates for army officers of captain rank and above for another 60 days, effective from September 12.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Thursday (September 11).
Their previous 60-day term as executive magistrates, effective from July 14, expires today.
Under the extension, commissioned officers serving in the Bangladesh Armed Forces, including those deployed in the Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), will continue to exercise the authority of Special Executive Magistrates nationwide.
The empowered officers can take cognizance of offences under multiple sections of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
Initially, these powers were granted to commissioned army officers on September 17 last year, and later expanded on September 30 to include all officers of captain rank and above. Since then, the tenure of this authority has been extended periodically.
