Magnitude 3.5 earthquake jolts Jashore
An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 was felt in Monirampur upazila of Jashore at 2:27pm on Saturday.
This marks the third tremor this month. Earlier, on September 14, a moderate to strong quake of magnitude 5.8 struck India’s Assam, with its epicentre between the Assam Valley and the Himalayas, near Guwahati. A week later, on September 21, a magnitude 4 quake shook Chhatak in Sunamganj, Sylhet.
Md Rubaiyat Kabir, acting officer at the Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation and Research Centre, confirmed Saturday’s quake to the media, describing it as a minor one with Monirampur as its epicentre.
According to the department’s bulletin, the epicentre was located 157km south-west of Dhaka.
