Former Information Adviser to the Interim Government, Mahfuj Alam, will not participate in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. He had collected his nomination papers from Laxmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency last Sunday but did not submit them by the deadline on Monday.

Mahfuj Alam confirmed the decision to the media on Monday (December 29).

Last year, he served as an adviser in the Interim Government representing the youth leaders of the mass uprising. Ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election, he resigned from his advisory position to Cheif Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus on December 10.

Alam played a key role in formulating policies and strategies for the July mass uprising. His fellow activists later formed the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) in February.

Although he initially held significant influence in the party, his role diminished over time. He has also been active on social media, critiquing Jamaat-e-Islami.

There had been speculation that Mahfuz Alam might join BNP and contest under its ‘Dhanner Sheesh’ symbol. Following the formal announcement of a 10-party electoral alliance of Jamaat and like-minded parties last Sunday, Alam wrote on Facebook that he had been offered a nomination under the alliance, but clarified that he is not a member of NCP and will not contest.
