Mahfuz Alam becomes new info adviser
Mahfuz Alam has been appointed as the new information advisor of the interim government. He came to this post after Md Nahid Islam resigned on Tuesday (February 25). A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday confirmed Mahfuj Alam’s appointment to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
On Tuesday, Nahid Islam submitted his resignation to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Discussions on the matter began after his resignation. Nahid Islam's resignation was inevitable due to the formation of a new political party. After this, the question arose, who will be the next information advisor.
In the discussions, the name of the current press secretary of the chief adviser, Shafiqul Alam, first came up for discussion. However, considering the current situation, the chief adviser did not want to keep him in this post. Therefore, he was promoted to senior secretary. Then, Mahfuz Alam's name was finalized.
Mahfuz Alam was sworn in as an adviser on November 10, but he was not in charge of any ministry at the time. Before that, he was appointed as a special assistant to the chief advisor on August 28. He graduated from the Law Department of Dhaka University. He was active in the anti-discrimination student movement and played an important role in the movement against the Hasina government.
At one point, the chief adviser introduced him as the 'mastermind' of that movement. After the mass uprising, he worked as the coordinator of the liaison committee to establish communication between students, citizens and the interim government.
