Main accused in attack on MP Aynul Haque's motorcade arrested
Police have arrested Tamal Sarkar (35), the main accused in a case filed over the attack and vandalism on the motorcade of Aynul Haque, Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) constituency.
He was arrested in an operation in the Dhangara Bazar area of Raiganj upazila late on Monday night. Tamal is the son of the late Siraj Sarkar of that area. Additional Superintendent of Police for Raiganj Circle Saiful Islam Khan confirmed the arrest.
On August 15, MP Aynul Haque attended a views-exchange meeting at Dhangara Bazar to determine the site for a proposed technical training centre. On his way back after the meeting, his motorcade was attacked. While the MP escaped unharmed, the rear of his vehicle was damaged.
A case was filed over the incident by local BNP leader Shamimul Hasan, naming 15 individuals and 30 to 40 unnamed others on charges of attempted murder.
Earlier, Golam Muktadir, general secretary of Raiganj Press Club, and local businessman Alamgir Hossain were arrested in the case. The court granted a one-day remand for them. Four other accused in the case are currently on anticipatory bail.
The Sirajganj district BNP has also formed a nine-member investigation committee to probe the incident.
