Main accused in Hadi murder arrested in Kolkata
The two main accused in the killing of Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, who was shot in the capital’s Paltan area, have been arrested in Kolkata.
The arrested are Rahul, also known as Faisal Karim Masud, and Alamgir Hossain. They were detained from the Bongaon border area, according to West Bengal media outlet Ei Samay.
On December 12 last year, helmet-wearing assailants who arrived on motorcycles opened fire targeting Hadi in the Paltan area of the capital. He was seriously injured and later died.
Sources involved in the investigation said one of the attackers was identified as Faisal Karim Masud.
The interim government had announced a reward of Tk5 million for information leading to his arrest.
Earlier, bank accounts belonging to Faisal Karim Masud, his company Apple Soft IT Limited, and members of his family were frozen over allegations of involvement in the incident.
Officials concerned said the decision was taken to examine whether the attack had any financial backing and to prevent possible transfer or concealment of funds.
In the Hadi murder case, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inquilab Mancha, filed a case with the police station.
After investigating the case, the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused to the court on January 6.
However, the complainant filed a no-confidence petition regarding the charge sheet in court on January 15. The court then ordered further investigation, handed the case over to the Criminal Investigation Department and instructed it to submit a report.
Meanwhile, the deadline for submitting the investigation report has already been extended six times, and the investigation remains ongoing.
